Lizzy Gee is a fashion brand creating fun, sustainable designs for bold personalities of all shapes, sizes, and genders. Started in 2014, Lizzy’s work engages with female empowerment and deconstructs restrictive definitions of masculinity. Lizzy aims to critique heteronormative constructions of gender by creating new garments from typically contrasting design elements. Lizzy firmly believes garments can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, with many garments having transitional elements for day to night wear. Much of her designs are inspired by a love of color and coexistence as individuals. For example, her collection “Breaking Free” was inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall and explores tangible barriers (such as walls, gates, and doors) and invisible boundaries constructed by society such as gender, race, and class. The process of creating each collection uses the sustainability methods of upcycling, recycling, and zero waste. Every collection involves a blending of multiple prints, textures, and demographics to express such ideology along with her accessory collection to accompany the clothes. She is trying to transcend her dreams sustainably while helping to make people feel beautiful.

A native of Philadelphia, Lizzy Gee moved to Brooklyn, NY to attend the Pratt Institute and to further develop her role as a designer. Having recently graduated from Pratt this past May with a BFA in Fashion, she is making bigger moves towards developing her brand. Since learning to sew at the age of eight, Lizzy has been constantly working towards her dream of becoming a designer. Her work has been shown in over twelve fashion shows, including four years of participation as a feature fashion designer in the Christine Phillips Fundraiser Fashion Show and a participant in Philadelphia Fashion Week.

Her award-winning designs have been exhibited at the Moore College of Art & Design gallery, the University of the Arts Philadelphia, the Design Gallery at Pratt Institute, the Senior Pratt Design Show 2018, and the front window display at Screaming Mimi’s Vintage. Her professional experience also includes teaching machine sewing at the Handwork Studio and assisting at brands such as Christian Siriano, Badgley Mischka, and Mara Hoffman. Her objective is to create sustainable, innovative perspectives of beauty and functional design for people of all genders, shapes, and sizes.
