Yohanna started working as a Dressmaker in a well-known fashion companies in the Dominican Republic when she was a teenager. Inspired by her passion for fashion, she began her fashion career at The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. Soon after, she began assisting designers for their fashion collections.
Later, she started to show her talent in different various Fashion houses and fashion shows. Before she gradated from collage, her first completely independent venture was in the fashion show called “Caribbean Woman” which took place on December 16, 1997 where her talent and designs were widely accepted and applauded, by print, television and the general public.
Yohanna also has worked for some famous people, beauty pageants, and misses in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Actress, Mildred Quiroz, who started in Venezuelan soap operas, and is also an actress of Telemundo-Spanish TV. – has worn Yohanna’s gowns.
She not only designed for ladies of the presidential cabinet, but also for one of the first ladies in the Dominican Republic. She was part of the official designers of Miss Dominican Republic beauty pageant. 2000 to 2002. She has been on many Dominican television shows that cover different various aspect of fashion.
The ambition to go abroad to get to the top in world of fashion, forced Yohanna to move closer to New York, in New Jersey, where She has done several individual fashion collections.
She is presently working with different national e international beauty pageants, and several other foundations, including HIV Aids Foundation of New York.
In New York City and New Jersey, Yohanna Gursey has worked for Narciso Rodriguez’s Fashion Shows, Alfamicron/ADEPT’s Fashion Shows and other prestigious houses in the industry of fashion in New York. She has participated in various gown competitions, most of which she has won. One of then was, Best Gown at Miss New Jersey USA 2005.
Yohanna Gursey has been working in fashion design for more than 20 years. Her work has been presented in media both in the Dominican Republic and New York such as
USA Telemundo Spanish Channel 47 and “Inspiration for Spanish Heritage Program on “NJN” channel. Her work was also shown in “Esmeralda Magazine” Issue Feb. 2006. And an article in may 2006 in the Spanish newspaper “Hoy” and others Dom.Rep. Magazines and News Papers“Mujer unica” Spanish Magazine, “Novias Unicas” “Listin Diario”, Periodico “Hoy”and others.
