Pat Brown has been in the fashion industry, in the New York City area, for over 20 years as a model, a designer of chic female swimwear and lingerie, and as a designer of couture gowns and ready-to-wear apparel. She was born in Jamaica, W.I., and later migrated to the United Kingdom. In 1978, she migrated to the US, where she has since made her home.
Her designs have graced many runways all over the US and have been featured in Black Men’s Magazine, Today’s Black Woman Magazine, The Jamaican Star, and other print publications. Her designs have also been featured on a wide variety of fashion-focused websites such as All Access DVD, Plitz Fashion Marketing, Fashion Ledge, Black Fashion Designers Association, Carivibez TV, Runway News, and Revenge Fashion Magazine.
Pat Brown was the recipient of the Ashley Stewart Great Woman of Style Award (1999), having her image featured in their stores across the US.
Her company, Downtown Wear, LLC, New Jersey, was founded in 2001. Her eclectic designs, branded under the name Downtown Pat Brown, spun from hand painted bustiers that could be worn either intimately in the bedroom or on a night out on the town. These designs also went well with jeans or a suit. The line advanced to couture gowns, swimwear, lingerie, hand painted designed boots, and, recently added, ready-to-wear apparel. In 2010, Pat Brown re-branded Downtown Pat Brown and gave it the new name Aphrodisiac, by Pat Brown. She also founded Zellure Modeling Group in 2010, to recruit and groom models for clients in the Tri-State area.
Over the years, Pat Brown has coordinated and promoted many fashion events in New Jersey to help promote her designs. She has also collaborated with several producers and artistes to bring greater visibility to her designs. In 2009, her designs were seen on the cover of The Star Newspaper (North American Issue), a division of The Jamaica Gleaner, being worn by reggae soul artiste Barbee, along with a full-page story.
She is presently promoting her line in various cities in the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Miami, and Atlanta. She is also seeking to establish business relationships hopes in United Kingdom, Canada, and the Caribbean.
