SPOON Fashion, a New York City based women’s contemporary clothing label, was founded in 2011 by Randi Spoon. In early 2012, Randi partnered with Alexis Przybylski Lawton. Randi and Alexis quickly developed a unique bond and established a shared vision. Their common interests and diverse talents made for a seamless collaboration. Randi, a gifted illustrator, attended Syracuse University’s College of Visual & Performing Arts. Randi honed her skills with internships at Diane Von Furstenberg and Zac Posen, and a styling position at Rue La La. Alexis, a talented ballerina, moved to London after high school and danced across Europe. Alexis later went on to pursue a B.A from Boston College. Upon graduation, she re-focused her creativity to the luxury fashion industry working in-house PR for Chopard and later David Yurman.

The brand 16：9WingWang was created after my graduation, it represents the mode of my understanding of fashion design. Wing Wang is my name, 16:9 is a scale, I attach much attention to the scale of the clothing, and once made several modifications to a same cloth, the scale is the most important factor is clothing, and it is also a balance. Clothing can be full of design, it can also be market-oriented, but the control of the scale is essential and can not be neglected, it needs accuracy like gold split point.

The brand designs its clothing with the focus on the needs of the modern women who are pursuing an artistic lifestyle, maximize favorable factors and minimize unfavorable ones, with wearing feeling as its premise, so it does not focus on the same age group, on the design trend, there will be no exaggerations on design, but there will be some daring design elements, both simple and popular, give the wearer plenty of freedom with the feeling of space and ideal, it will also be able to adapt to the needs of different occasions, take into account the various levels and roles, show unique personal taste and the ideal creative elements, it can be described as the combination of dynamics and statics, of hardness and softness.

I firmly believe that clothing design brings happiness to people. Design is an excellent expression of my life, catching a good shot, taking part in exhibitions and getting hands-on experience are the inspirations of my increasing designs, with the growing of my age, the sense of design is changing, the only thing that does not change is my persistence for design, it propels me forward and lead me to the series of “Emerging”. Black, white and gray are the mature color in my habit, they and the more acute color–rose red, sapphire blue and lemon yellow that with a strong visual impact I use this year organize my design.

It has been 7 years since I graduated from the University of Northumbria and started designing, from a graduated designer then to a freelance red carpet dress designer for stars now, from film clothing stylist to the funder of the Ying Sheng International Training Institution, I am starting to know that design is fun, I like to find design inspiration from various attempts, inspiration is the source, but it is also the bottleneck, I regard these years’ experience as my inspiration for creation and inject it into my design, it seems i am recording my own growing journey, so I name it “Emerging”.

Public projects:

I took part in 2007 China Design Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony, raised fund for Interior Design Education and Research Fund in China by organizing charity sale, the raised fun was to be spent on the financial aid for poor college students and research and development of interior design industry.

I took part in the following items as a designer:

In 2007, the fashion show of the cross-border “architectural elements”. A design team that was cleverly made up of famous painter, sculptor, furniture designer, esthetician, fashion designers in the art field, and the show consisted of dozens of designers’ clothing works, which interpreted architectural elements and fashion taste from different aesthetic perspectives, and it was met with shock waves; it was our heartfelt support for the charity sale, and offered help to the poor college students and interior design industry.

As a professional lecturer at Ying Sheng International Training Institution and an art instructor at the Beijing Institute of Clothing, for years I nurture talent for the field of fashion design and China’s fashion design industry, more and more students are learning expertise in world’s famous schools, and make contributions to the fashion industry at home, I instructed students to participate in a number of competitions at home and abroad, and have received excellent rankings, the most recent one was Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province the Cocoon Cup Ladies Designer Competition, and got a Silver Award, and a student’s work was accepted by a famous foreign brand MCM and is to be put into production and sales; students’ works appear on the fashion magazine for many times, the lists can go on and on. All of that will promote the rapid development of China’s fashion industry.

When the Porcelain Doll Choir sang for the first time, Sun Yanzi encouraged and supported them, Southeast TV show host Guan Yi appealed to the public’s love, as a designer, I designed their singing costumes.

The Porcelain Dolls are all like singing, and they all have a beautiful voice, for years they dreamed of gathering all the Porcelain Dolls across the country and do chorus, this dream has been realized in this year’s conference, the Porcelain Doll Choir started the chorus on the Second Porcelain Doll National Patient Conference, together they sang Sun Yanzi’s “Tomorrow’s Memory”. They showed their warm and positive side, brought climax to the audience, and won rounds of applause from the audience, they come from all over the country, the 21 Porcelain Dolls are age from 6-37.

Another highlight before the singing of the Porcelain Dolls is that when Sun Yanzi learned the story of the Porcelain Dolls and the performance of their choir, she specially recorded a VCR to show her encouragement and blessing for them. The little Porcelain Dolls in presence were greatly moved, with the support from the star they surely will become more positive! I offered my support along with Fujian Southeast TV presenter Guan Yi, I talked with them about the dress and color they would like to wear for their first singing performance and their dress were costume tailored by eyeballing, they truly realized their dreams and achieved the most beautiful scene on the stage. After the choir’s first singing performance, a line of more than 20 of them were to be invited to Fujian Southeast TV to record programs! I felt very happy to be their costume designer, it was really what a designer ought to do and care.

In 2012, I held the post of overall fashion designer for the movie Block Trades directed by Ma Liwen, Venue of shoot: Dubai, South Korea.

From 2009-2012, I established Ying Sheng International Culture&Art Center and serve as speaker and instructor, the trained students are admitted to the world’s top five art design institutions, including Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Parsons School of Design, London College of Fashion, Fashion Institute of Technology (New York) and so on.

In 2011, I served as an overall fashion designer for the first TV show of “Happy 100”, a large television variety show on Fujian Southeast TV, the hosts include Guan Yi, Wang Rong, Liu Wei and so on.

In 2011, I served as an overall fashion designer for television network reality dream show–Let the Dream Fly, gave a hand to the dream seekers and as a fashion designer for “Porcelain Dolls” dream ambassador of public section Dream Seekers.

For this season, HOLW is going back in the times of the “Wizard of Oz”. Years have passed, and Dorothy’s all grown up thinking about those ruby slippers she was wearing while in her coma. Now, her journey back home has inspired her to recreate her style.

Laura, a native Washingtonian, was taught sewing by her mother at the age of 7. Along the way were many dressmakers she crossed paths with, only to enhance her skills and broaden her imagination.

Laura has graced a few venues in NYC from 2006 to the present, such as Couture Fashion week, Fashion on the Hudson, and Rogue Gallery. She won “2009 International Designer of the Year” sponsored by John Blassengame of “Today’s Black Woman”.

BMD is an everyday designer women’s and men’s wear apparel line and accessories, European inspired these pieces are made to fit seamlessly into your already existing closet. The silhouettes are classic with a temporary twist, making it easy to mix and match with things you already own. The ready-to-wear items are designed to be able to easily dress them up or down, so a single piece can take you from a day at the office to a night out on the town with a simple change of jewelry or a jacket.

Everyday women’s wear with a feminine European flare that I had acquired during my studies over seas. I like to offer a unique take on the city chic look. My aim is to design pieces that any women could easily integrate into their own closet and to offer women sophisticated, city chic style no matter where they live.

My grandmother taught me at the age of three how to sew and I have been doing it ever since. When I was 16, I received a scholarship through Penn State to study Fashion abroad at the American University of Paris. I was then sent to a specialty school, Broadmoor, for Fashion Design and Construction my senior year in High school. I then went on to college at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) on scholarship then transferred to finish out my studies at AIU London (American Intercontinental University in London).

In 2009, I returned to Kansas City, and started BMDesigns; which originally was a women’s wear line targeting the modern, sophisticated, working woman in their early 20’s to 40’s. Just last season I expanded into designing menswear. My heritage and time spent living abroad has had a large influence on my design aesthetic. My line is classic with a twist. I play with sophisticated styles and colour stories. I would say my signature is little surprise detailing in the outfits.

I was born in Galveston TX far from the glitz and glam of the runways of New York & Milan but not its influences.  I nurtured a desire for the arts and visual expression every chance I received.

Hannah Cusack is a native of Illinois, currently designing out of Columbia, Missouri where she attends school. Sewing since an early age, fashion has always been her passion. Her knack for design and styling has carried her to where she is today; co-founder of Yan by Hannah and graduating from the University of Missouri in May.
