JaJa is a leader in creating clothing that embraces a lifestyle that is meant to be celebrated every day with style and grace. JaJa believes in making the world your audience and the street your runway. Our product is truly about the person who wears it and his or her individual expression of our creation. We believe his or her approach to shopping is the same as his or her approach to everything else in life: elevated, functional, environmentally friendly and that will fit in any era. JaJa creates fashionable ready-to-wear pieces that seamlessly fit into this lifestyle, with an emphasis on sustainability and a keen awareness of the impact we have on the world at large. JaJa is passionate in the belief that the person makes the outfit, not the other way around, and that passion drives us to constantly create and explore ways to express who you are not who you should be.

Sheila Carter, the creative director of JaJa, started out making clothing as a teen. As a teen parent, it was her greatest escape into a world of creativity, passion, affordable, and acceptance. Even though her mother couldn’t sew on a button, she bought her a sewing machine. As a way to make ends meet, she began making clothing for herself, her son’s school clothes and repairing things around her mom’s home. Soon, family members would hire her to make their special occasion attire and home decor. Her uncle hired her to work in his men’s clothing store and she learned how to do alterations. While working at The Ohio State University, she completed her BS in Textile and Clothing, Product Development. She continued growing her business by introducing a young men’s line LaRo with the “No Sag” pants which are professionally dress pants with no sag. After watching her grandchildren craft items with her scrap fabrics, she created JaJa’s Kidz.

After moving to New York and completing her Master of Professional Studies in Merchandising and Management at LIM, she has a popup shop in Harlem. During this time, her partner encouraged her to create a full figure line, thus “ForMe2” line was formed. She has worked as a sample maker for Pretty Pushers, Nari Marivong, and Nathan McDonald. Sheila believes that everyone that anyone wearing her brand will make the world their audience and the street the runway.
