Selly Djap’s brand specializes in high-end luxury, one-of-a-kind evening wear. Each piece is hand- crafted beautifully by the designer herself and embellished with intricate hand-sewn beadings. Her brand, which manifests her personalized story, reflects her core belief of grace which is anchored in truth. Grace is an unmerited gift made possible only by love because it costs everything for the giver and nothing to the recipient. With the vision of a world that is abundant in love and grace, the brand sets out on its mission to share the good news of grace through the fashion platform.

I believe we all have a choice in how we tell our story. On the one hand, we can sugarcoat it like the classic love stories, but that is not the truth. And I want to share my honest story with you:

I struggle with my sexuality just like a lot of people do. I was born and raised in a culture where talking or even thinking about sex is rendered as taboo. It gets worse for women than men. I was dictated that a woman is bound to feel a sense of shame if she has lustful desires. For such a long time I have been sexually repressed. Due to not being able to freely express those desires, I turn to my works as an outlet to channel my repressed self. If you look at my first collection “Polarity”, it is aesthetically apparent that the exposed and seductive designs is a reflection of my sexual desires that I could not otherwise express. However, my brand is not a story of repression; it is a narrative of how I begin to embrace my sexuality, as well as how I learn to value and protect it. It is about finding the equilibrium – in the spectrum of being sexually repressed and excessive sexual expression – that is grounded with honor and protection. Fashion is a powerful tool to convey this message. In Genesis, the Father gave clothing to Adam and Eve as protection before they began their journeys to find healing. From this, we can see how the Father uses clothing as a symbol of grace. Grace in the form of a second chance. I am no expert in grace and am definitely still in the journey to seek its meaning. But if you ask me personally what grace is, the best way that I can define it to you is that grace is an unmerited gift made possible only by love because it costs everything for the giver and nothing to the recipient. And so through my brand, I want to tell you my story of how I began to embrace, honor and protect my sexuality that is only possible because I am given a second chance through the Father’s love and grace.
